Gushegu NPP Communications Director Proposes Tampuli As Deputy Minority Leader

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communications Director for the Gushegu Constituency, Mr. Mohammed Imoro, has proposed the selection of Hon Alhassan Tampuli as the deputy Minority Leader in the soon to be inaugurated 9th Parliament of the 4th Republic on the midnight of January 6, 2025.

Mr. Imoro argues that there’s no doubt in mind that the Gushegu lawmaker is a result-oriented figure considering the sterling performance he displayed during his tenure as Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) and presently as the Deputy Transport Minister.

The Communications Director emphasized that having Hon. Tampuli as Deputy Minority Leader would put the minority on a high gear to give the incoming John Mahama led National Democratic Congress (NDC) government the run they deserve.

β€œAs a young lawyer and vibrant politician who is noticeably connected to the grassroots, Hon Hassan Tampuli has what it takes to rally his colleagues and the grassroots behind the party as we regroup to face the battle ahead of us in 2028” he maintained.

Olu Kpatinga as he is widely known made the proposition on his Facebook handle as the NPP gears up to elect new frontbench members to lead their minority group in Parliament.

Meanwhile, some leading members and Members of Parliament have already joined the conversation as to who should lead the NPP Minority caucus in the next Parliament. The first Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hon Joe Osei Owusu, recently proposed that the party should maintain the current Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo Markin, as the new Minority Leader.

Below is the full statement:

We Need A Vibrant And Proactive Minority

In 1997 the NPP had a 63 MP Minority against 131 NDC Majority in the second parliament of the 4th Republic of Ghana. The NPP knowing the task ahead in the next election, and bearing in mind the critical role the minority ought to play in executing the task selected the legendary J H Mensah to lead the minority in parliament.

The lady fire brand then, Gladys Asmah was then selected to Deputize J.H Mensah. These two, together with the whips and ranking members kept the Rawlings government to accountable to the admiration of all. It’s not for nothing, that the second parliament arguably is described as the best parliament so far by many political observers.

Fast forward to the 9th parliament in 2025, the NDC have once again taken a commanding control of parliament, just as they did in 1997 for the 2nd parliament. Need we say we need a vibrant and proactive minority as we had in the 2nd parliament?

A vibrant and proactive minority would be determined by the kind of leaders we choose to lead the battle. It’s often said, that an army of sheep led by the lion will always defeat the army of lions led by the sheep. Even though ours numbers are small, having the right leadership, our small numbers will give their large numbers a run for their money.

Having Hon. Tampuli Deputy Minority Leader would put our minority on a high gear to give them the run they deserve.

Looking at the sterling performance of Hon Hassan Tampuli at NPA as CEO and at the transport ministry as a deputy minister, there’s no doubt in mind that he’s a man who focuses on delivering results. As a young lawyer and vibrant politician who’s noticeably connected to the grassroots, Hon Hassan Tampuli has what it takes to rally his colleagues and the grassroots behind the party as we regroup to face the battle ahead of us in 2028.

  1. That is a brilliant ,timely, good, wonderful and precise proposal. Hon Hassan Sulemana Tampuli is a Strategic Politician who, when given the Position, would share the Experiences and Strategies with Colleague Parliamentarians. As Results-Oriented Parliamentarian, he will bring these experiences on board to effect positive change in 2028 if he is considered for the Position as Deputy Minority Leader. He is therefore a good material that the New Patriotic Party should make good use of.
