Yendi: NPP Suspends 184 Members For Anti-Party Behaviors
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Yendi Constituency has expelled a total number of one hundred and eighty-four (184) members for breaching the party’s constitution by contesting as independent candidates and supporting rival political parties during the December 7 elections.
The NPP Constituency Chairman, Alhaji Baba Gazali, who announced this in a statement on Friday (December 27, 2024), said the suspension takes immediate effect.
He stated the decision followed an expanded Constituency Executive Committee meeting held on December 23, 2024, where party leaders reviewed complaints and petitions from members.
“The committee determined that the actions of the expelled individuals directly violated the party’s rules and threatened its unity” he asserted.
The Chairman emphasized that, the leadership of the party had to invoke the relevant provisions of the Party’s constitution which was breached by the said persons in which the complaints were lodged against by other party members in a form of petitions.
Article (3) clause (9)(1) of the NPP Constitution states, “A Member of the Party who stands as an independent Candidate against the officially elected member of the party or joining or declaring his or her support for another political party, or for an independent candidate when the party has sponsored a candidate in a general or by[1]election automatically forfeits his or her membership of the party.”
