NDC Bigwigs Plotting To Sabotage Electrochem Ghana Limited
Some stalwarts of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have begun scheming to frustrate the activities of Electrochem Ghana Limited (EGL), a subsidiary of the McDan Group engaged in salt mining on the Ada Songor Lagoon barely a month since the party won the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections for the second term of President John Mahama.
Information reaching GINA News Room allegedly suggests that Hon Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye Chairman of the John Mahama Manifesto Committee on Youth and Sports, Dr Tony Aubin, Chairman Manifesto Committee on Mining and Hon Alex Kyeremeh, Chairman Manifesto committee on Education allegedly held a meeting at the Fiesta Royal Hotel in Accra on December 15, 2024, as part of the grand scheme.
“It has been alleged that some stalwarts of the incoming administration of the NDC had a secret meeting with some miscreants who should know better that McDan Electrochem Salt Mining has legally acquired the Songhor to do salt mining in Ghana” an anonymous source confirmed.

This portal has further learnt that, prior to this year’s general elections, the NDC parliamentary candidates for Ada East constituency, Hon. Doeyo Cudjo and Ada West constituency, Daniel Bessy, gave an assurance to some apparatchiks within the Ada Songor Lagoon Concession area that when the party wins power, they will allegedly chase out Electrochem Ghana Limited.
The two NDC lawmakers have been accused of engaging in deliberate attempts with the Ada Songor Lagoon Association (ASLA) and organizations such as The Fourth Estate and The Third World Network to undermine the company’s reputation. They have allegedly incited individuals to encroach the concession for illegal mining activities.
The $80 million project is the largest salt and chlorine-alkali manufacturing company in the sub region operated by the McDan Group, a wholly Ghanaian Company which secured a concession of 41,000 acres at Ada Songor to produce about 1,000,000 metric tons of salt per annum to supply to local and export markets.
The company is strategically positioned to leverage over two decades of expertise and resources to invest in and maximise returns from the salt and chemical industries.
The outgoing President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, commissioned Electrochem Ghana Ltd Salt Mine and Washing Plant at Sege in the Ada East district in August 2023.
