NPP Communications Director Mocks First Ministerial Nominees of President John Mahama

The Gushegu Communications Director of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Mohammed Imoro, has mocked the first three Ministerial nominees of President John Dramani Mahama, announced few days back.

The President in accordance with Article 78 of the 1992 Constitution presented the names of the first three ministerial nominees of his government who will help him run the affairs of the country to the Speaker of Parliament for approval by the House.

Article 78(1) states: โ€œMinisters of State shall be appointed by the President with the prior approval of Parliament from among Members of Parliament (MPs) or persons qualified to be elected as
Members of Parliament, except that the majority of ministers of state shall be appointed from among Members of Parliament.โ€

The nominees included, Dr Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, Minister-designate for Finance, John
Abdulai Jinapor, Minister-designte for Energy, and Dr Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, Attorney General and Minister-designate for Justice.

Responding to a post made on Facebook on the development, the NPP Director of Communications questioned the seriousness of President Mahama, who has just kick-started his second and last term of office as leader of the country.

“What is play or not play about ministerial nomination and vetting of same? The nominees were all part of his first failed government, so what’s new” Mr. Imoro queried.

According to him, Jinapor was deputy energy minister when the country experienced the dreaded dumsor, stressing that, “In fact dumsor gave birth to Power Ministry which he was deputy.”

He further chided the appointment of Dr Forson as the new Finance Minister-designate stating “Ato Forson was deputy finance minister when our GDP consistently declined every single year without seeing even a 1% improvement for 4 years.”

“Dominic Ayini was deputy Attorney General when the country was being slapped with judgment debts left, right and centre. So what at all is news about their nomination?” he maintained.
